"Ask, and you will receive. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will he opened for you. (Matt 7:7)
At first glance, it may appear that this verse has no relation to what has gone before. But that is not the case at all. Earlier, Jesus had instructed his followers to follow principles that seemed foreign to their human nature.
When we despair of ever achieving the slightest advantage over our sinful tendency to fail at achieving these principles, Jesus shows us that the answer is found only in him. He does not leave us to our own devices as we seek to solve the dilemma that so captivates our souls.
Instead, Jesus instructs his followers that they must continually ask, seek, and find the answers that will enable them to live as true subjects of their King. In fact, Jesus assures his disciples that continued knocking would result in the door to the kingdom being opened to them. They will find that the Spirit of the living God lives within them, equipping them for the work of the kingdom.
